542

Angela was somewhere in her fifties, rather short with light brown skin and frizzy grey black hair.  It turned out she was part Aboriginal.  She said that she lived there already for ten years, and that Theresa had basically rescued her from the street, from drug addiction and sex work."

"Is that the word that Angela used for it?" says Carl, and it is clear that he really wants to stir up mischief, "Sex work?"

"No, she used another word."

"What word did she use, Sarah", and Carl is clearly trying to stifle a giggle.

"Never mind!" she sputters, "Do you want to hear the story or don't you?"

"So she was a hooker", says Carl, laughing.

"Okay, whatever!  And don't interrupt again."

"Yes, ma'am."

"So, anyway", she says, flustered, but now starting to giggle, "So, anyway", and now she is laughing right out loud, "Just a minute, everyone, for this station break", she says, fighting to regain composure.  And now Carol is giggling, and Carl, and Aaron, and now I am starting to laugh, and now Michael, Matthew, Adam, Lazarus, and Jesús.  The others struggle to stay poker face, and Melissa just remains as flat and facially blank as ever...
