Thirteen Crucifixions, 120

Nearly two months Michael had stayed away, under the auspices of a personal revelation from God.  Never did he connect his desertion of the community to his mother’s sudden and unanticipated arrival, as she bore the tidings of his natal home’s destruction by fire.  Norman, who ran the homeless shelter downtown, he had become immediately and fiercely enamoured with, sublimating his erotic passion into the most ill-fitting Christian love.  Norman’s wish became Michael’s command, even when, eventually, he told him that he must return to the Place of the Transfiguration.  This had occurred during Michael’s breakdown, during his last week with Norman.  He was snapping at and bullying the homeless in his care.  Norman knew that it was time to confront him with some hard and unpleasant truths.  To everyone’s surprise Michael was compliant and submissive.  He was needing the care of people who knew and loved him.
