"So", says Francois with a wide shit eating grin, "Who was the stupid fucking asshole?"
"You have three good guesses. The first two don't count."
"You must be glad to be out of that kind of life", say I."
"It still isn't out of me."
"I guess these things take a long time to heal."
"It never heals."
There is quite a racket coming from the basement as the cleaners tackle the mess left by our previous tenants. I am feeling somewhat better, more settled, but also restless. "I'm going to clean up the kitchen."
"No you're not", says Carl. "Francois, shall we get to work now, and our good host can sit at the table and watch..."
