"He also appeared to be unwell", says Karen, "I mean to say, mentally unwell. He never once permitted us inside the house, naturally citing the pandemic, so naturally we met only outside in front, and we had no way of knowing the condition he would leave the place in. But you say, he never came upstairs, not even to feed the cat?"
"I was taking care of the cat, Karen", says Drew. "She was rather neglected, poor thing."
"She is lovely", she says, casting an eye on Sheeba who is curled up resting in the sun in our midst. "Have you decided to keep her?"
"I will be looking after her", says Francois, extending to her his hand which she sniffs, then places her head under for a caress.
"So you are staying after all".
"Looks that way."
Say I, "We're all in between things right now. I have a friend, an ex in-law actually, coming from Europe tomorrow, and after his two week quarantine he will be staying with us at the mansion before we move back to the house here. And Wednesday..."
"Wednesday we will have other visitors", interjects Carl, clearly trying to curtail the conversation...
